Why Independent Contractor Agreements Are Important
And what to put in them
Contracts is not one of my favorite subjects because I feel like most contracts are adhesion contracts. Using Medium is a contract. You may use Medium so long as you follow their rules. However, contracts is important because we enter business agreements everyday knowingly and unknowingly, so here we go.
Independent Contractor Agreements (hereinafter “ICA”) are important because you are conducting business. You need to lay out the terms of your duties, expectations, and policies so that if there is any discrepancies later you and the other party can review what you agreed to.
One thing that should go in your ICA is a refund, exchange, or cancellation policy. Anything can happen between the time you sign a contract to fulfilling the contract, like death.
What if the contractor dies? What if the client dies?
This story stuck out to me because I don’t shop at places that don’t give refunds. I don’t do business with people who have no refund policies. You expect to keep my money if things don’t work out with your product or service? That’s not gone happen. That’s why I stopped shopping at Forever 21 and similar stores when I was in college because they had a no refund policy.
