This Licensed Attorney Makes $8.00/Hour
This is a post I came across about a law school graduate who could not find a job in his field after graduating from law school and passing the bar exam. So he had to work at Starbucks making coffee for $8.00 an hour. Law school cost $150,000 a year. After doing all that work in college, this is soul crushing. And it’s a dude — with a wife. He did everything right and went to a top law school, but still got fucked in the end.
This is his story.
“Graduated about a year and a half ago, top 20% at a supposedly “strong” regional school (T3), law review, internships every year, etc. Passed the bar on the first try. 18 months later still have not found a non-minimum wage job despite Bar admission, JD, Master’s, and BA. My wife and I agreed I would not settle for going back to working in retail or restaraunts, but after months and months of job searching I finally gave up and make $8.00 an hour working at a brewery, in the hopes that one of the 500–600+ jobs I’ve applied for all over the northwest in law would pan out, but still nothing.
“Obviously I can’t make a career out of minimum wage work without us ending up homeless. I think I’ve finally reached that precipice where I’m ready to give up on finding a job in law (but when you’ve been pursuing something for 5+ years it’s a tough pill to swallow).
