I’m black and people are surprised I went to law school
Change yourself if you want the world to change
Why are people surprised I went to law school?
I don’t brag about completing law school. I don’t walk around saying,
hey look at me I went to school, I’m going to be a lawyer.
So when it becomes known people are stunned. One reason could be because completing law school and becoming an attorney may sounds like a big accomplishment. But to me, I’m just a law school graduate and that’s no big deal.
- I can’t represent anyone in court yet. I am not licensed yet because I haven’t taken and passed the bar exam yet.
- I can’t make any lawyer money yet — unless I get some other job that pays around $50 to $100 per hour. That has not happened with just my legal education and I’m not going back to school.
Although I thought about learning something in computer technology. But I have already spent 7 years in college between 2006 and 2015 and owe over $200,000 back in student loans.
It could be because I am black. It could be because I am a black female. It could be because I wear my hair in a ponytail when I don’t have Indian Remy track extensions in my hair. It could be my demeanor or the way I talk or speak or whatever the correct phrasing is. People love to correct your words in a sentence as if in…
