Former Law School Colleague Refers Me To an EDiscovery Project

A former classmate who recently got hired to start an eDiscovery Document Review project next week. The company asked him for referrals. He texted me to inform me about the job and informed me how to apply.

I applied through email. I didn’t receive a reply back

Two hours later, I called the company. The recruiter, Rachel Hornbuckle, I emailed my resume to answered on the first ring. I asked her did she need anymore reviewers next week for the project. She stated,

no and she would let me know about future opportunities.

I informed my former classmate that they didn’t need anymore reviewers. He said,

that’s weird — they asked me for referrals.

I live in the city the project will be in

He lives in another city and state about 2 hours away. Nonetheless, I emailed the lady back to inquire under a different name. The recruiter replied instantly in 2 minutes in an enthusiastic welcoming tone stating,

Thanks for reaching out. Would love to connect with you about future opportunities. I don’t seem to have your resume on file, could you send a copy?

I emailed her a copy of my pretend person resume that I made up. I resent my original email. In a harsh tone, the recruiter replied,

You and I spoke on the phone earlier, thanks for reaching out. As I mentioned then, I will keep you posted on future opportunities.

I’m waiting to see if my pretend person gets hired.. .
