Tyler Perry didn’t just crack jokes. He created a copyrighted and trademarked character: Madea. It’s not enough to crack jokes. Cracking jokes will only get you so far on a solo journey. That’s why black comedians play roles in sitcoms because they are owned by the media.

The comedian you see on television in a sitcoms could have been filled by anyone. Sometimes the shows are created by the comedian. Sometimes the shows are created by someone else. The Parenthood was created by Robert Townsend. The Steve Harvey show was created by Steve Harvey.

It depends on a comedians goals in life. Sometimes they crack jokes in order to gain attention. Other times they have big dreams in life. It would be smart to follow someone like Tyler Perry. Follow his business moves. Don’t just put on a wig and make jokes. Create a character.

When you create a character you own the copyright and trademark to that character. That’s how you make your money. You can charge people to stream your work. You can sue people who steal your work. Stop giving your creativity away for free.
